Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. PHASES 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer the pumpkin contour/ribs, carved face, both moths, burgundy branches, green foliage, cream sprays, curls, berries and all hanging stars. Stitch the thin branch/vine scaffolds first in 814/500/3371 with one strand, keeping the central pumpkin and upper moth areas open and symmetrical. 2. MAIN FOCAL ELEMENT Fill the jack-o'lantern in 720/721/722. Follow each rib downward and slightly inward; keep 722 on forward-facing ridges, 721 across most planes and 720 confined to narrow valleys, the underside and stem-side turns. Add the 310/3371 eyes, nose and smile only after the orange surface is complete. 3. SECONDARY LARGE ELEMENT Work the large upper moth, then the smaller lower moth. Establish 310/3371 outlines and black fields first; add 3829/729/3852 gold markings in the wing direction, with restrained 3865/822 at the palest bands. Keep antennae and legs one strand and stitch the skull-like thorax marking last. 4. FOLIAGE + PALE SPRAYS Build the burgundy wreath in 814/815/816, stitching leaves base-to-tip and preserving clean center veins. Add forest greens in 500/501/503, then place 3865/822 cream sprays behind the stronger colored leaves. Keep pale sprays flatter and less dense so the moths and pumpkin retain the strongest value contrast. 5. SMALL DETAIL WORK Add gold-brown berries with compact 729/3829 French knots, then stitch the hanging cords and star ornaments in one strand. Add tiny starbursts, leaf veins, moth wing separators, pumpkin contour corrections and fine vine curls last so these details remain crisp and do not become visually heavy. 6. FINAL DETAILS + BLOCKING Refine only the deepest pumpkin valleys with sparse 720, sharpen the black carved face, and deepen moth wing creases with 310 where necessary. Check circular balance: burgundy stays dominant in the outer wreath, green remains supportive, cream sprays stay airy and the two moths visually bracket the pumpkin. Bury tails, steam from reverse and block flat
