About this Moon Moth Mushrooms Woodland Wreath embroidery pattern

Moon Moth Mushrooms Woodland Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Large moon-marked moth centered in a circular woodland wreath; small moths above, beside and below; clustered mushrooms; fern fronds, leaves and berries; muted mauve, charcoal, cream, brown and olive-gold accents.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Color and stitch guidance

The supplied guide proposes 15 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

The supplied guide labels this design intermediate. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.

Stitching sequence

  1. Transfer the complete central moth, every small moth, mushroom, fern, leaf, berry and star. Preserve the circular wreath spacing and keep the large moth centered with clear linen around the wing tips.
  2. Outline the focal moth in 310/3799 and build pale wing fields with 3865/822/414/3042 using smooth body-outward long-and-short stitch. Reinforce charcoal veins and borders with 3799/413 in one strand.
  3. Work the moth body in compact 310/3799/3021 satin and long-and-short bands. Add lunar markings in 3011/3012/680/729 with neat satin edges, keeping the muted wing fields visible between each motif.
  4. Stitch the small moths in 3032/822/3042 with one-strand outlines and light shading. Keep their contrast lower than the central moth so the focal hierarchy remains clear.
  5. Build mushrooms in 3021/3032/3740/3041/3042. Work caps from crown toward edge with short long-and-short or satin stitches, then add slim stems in 822/3032 using vertical satin or stem stitch.
  6. Finish ferns, leaves and berries with 3799/413/414, 3740/3041/3042 and 3011/3012. Use fishbone for broad leaves, straight/fly stitches for fern leaflets, stem stitch for wreath curves, then add 729 stars and tiny knot dots. Reverse press over a towel. FINISHING: Steam from the reverse over a towel. Protect raised knots; keep moth wing edges, moon phases, mushroom caps, fern tips, leaf veins and star rays crisp
