About this Moonlit Black Rabbit Ghosts Berry Wreath embroidery pattern

Moonlit Black Rabbit Ghosts Berry Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: A seated near-black rabbit anchors the foreground in front of a large pale cratered full moon. Four small white ghosts float within a symmetrical wreath of olive leaves and blue-green berries. Copper crescent moons, hanging stars and tiny starbursts punctuate the ring, while a loose dark-teal and old-gold scalloped line creates an airy outer celestial frame. The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. PHASES 1. TRANSFER + CIRCULAR FRAME Transfer the rabbit, moon, four ghosts, main leaf-and-berry clusters, both hanging stars, copper crescents and the two loose outer meander paths. Establish the moon circle in 415, rabbit silhouette in 310 and main foliage stems in 3011. Mark berry centers and star positions, but leave tiny dots and rays for the end. 2. FULL MOON + GHOST FORMS Fill the moon in 3865/762/415/318 with curved, overlapping long-and-short stitches and darker 318/317 crater islands. Stitch each ghost in 3865/762, dropping 318 into lower folds and keeping the edges soft. Add one-strand 310 faces only after all pale fill is complete so the expressions stay crisp. 3. BLACK RABBIT FOCAL FIGURE Work the rabbit from head and ears through chest, forelegs, belly and haunch with 310/939/3799, following anatomical fur direction. Add restrained 317 reflected light along the ear rims, muzzle and upper body. Finish the eye, nose, mouth and paw divisions in one strand, preserving the rabbit as the darkest mass in the design. 4. OLIVE FOLIAGE + BLUE-GREEN BERRIES Build the wreath outward from the stems. Fishbone leaves with 3011/3012/3013, shifting lighter values toward leaf tips. Fill berries with 924/926 using compact satin or short long-and-short stitches, then add tiny 762 highlights to selected fruit. Keep groups balanced but not mechanically mirrored. 5. COPPER CELESTIAL DETAILS Fill the top and bottom crescents and hanging stars with 400/301-style warm copper handling using 400 plus 801 shadow accents. Suspend the stars in one-strand 801, then add warm 400 starbursts and small rust dots. Keep copper accents secondary to the moon and rabbit, using short, clean stitches with sharp points. 6. OUTER MEANDER + FINAL BLOCKING Trace the irregular dark-teal outer line in 924 and the companion old-gold line in 729, letting the two paths drift around one another without becoming a rigid border. Add isolated French knots and tiny pale/gold sparks last. Recheck spacing around each ghost and berry cluster, remove transfer marks, trim traveling threads and block face-down over padding
