About this Silver Crescent Key with Ivy Midnight Berries and Curling Vine Wreath embroidery pattern

Silver Crescent Key with Ivy Midnight Berries and Curling Vine Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central navy key topped by a silver crescent; symmetrical charcoal curling vines; dark and pale ivy leaves; midnight-blue berry clusters; tiny warm seed dots; clean open ivory ground.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. Transfer and structural frameworkTransfer the vertical key axis first, then mark the silver crescent, key teeth, paired wreath arcs, major ivy leaves and each midnight berry cluster. Establish the 3799/310 vine skeleton with one strand before any dense fills so both sides stay symmetrical and the ivory center remains open.
  2. Main focal element Build the key from 939 shadow masses through 823 and restrained 930 highlights. Keep shaft stitches vertical, turn stitches around the collar bands, and define the key teeth with short satin sections plus one-strand 310/3799 split or backstitch. Reserve the brightest cool accents for the outer shaft edge and raised bands.
  3. Secondary large element Model the crescent from 3799 and 930 in the deepest inner and lower shadows through 317 and 318 to small 415/712 highlights along the upper outer ridge. Follow the crescent arc with every stitch so the moon reads metallic and rounded rather than flat, and sharpen its outline only after the gradient is complete.
  4. Foliage / supporting motifs Work the ivy from 3011 through 3012 and 3013, alternating with pale 822/712 leaves. Use fishbone stitch from the center vein outward, keeping each leaf direction aligned to the wreath flow. Layer foliage over the finished 3799 vine framework so the dark curls remain visible between leaf groups.
  5. Small decorative details Build the berry clusters in 939/823 as compact rounded units, keeping the darkest values between berries and lighter blue edges toward the light source. Add tiny 729 and 712 French knots only after leaves and berries are secure, and keep these dots sparse so they act as warm punctuation rather than a competing texture.
  6. Final accents, dimensional details, cleanup, and blocking Add final 415/712 metal glints to the crescent and key bands, reinforce selective vine intersections with one-strand 310, and refine leaf veins with 3011 or 822 as appropriate. Check hierarchy: silver crescent and navy key first, midnight berries second, ivy leaves third, curling vines and seed dots fourth. Block from the reverse without flattening knots or berry texture
