About this Skeletal Hand Beneath Gilded Crescent with Plum and Black Rose Wreath embroidery pattern

Skeletal Hand Beneath Gilded Crescent with Plum and Black Rose Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central gray skeletal hand reaching to a gilded crescent, framed by deep plum and black roses, sage leaves, berry clusters, gold thorn vines, black branches, small crescents and gold lunar discs.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. Transfer and structural frameworkTransfer the hand, large crescent, major rose circles, branch arcs, thorn vines and leaf clusters. Establish the finger contours and main black branch paths first with 310/3371 in 1 strand, then mark the crescent edge lightly with 3045 so the focal geometry stays centered.
  2. Main focal element Build the skeletal hand from 318 into 413 and 3799, reserving 762 for narrow highlights along the upper planes of each phalanx. Keep long-and-short stitches aligned with each bone segment and reinforce only the deepest knuckle and palm gaps with 3371/310 after the fills are complete.
  3. Secondary large element Shade the gilded crescent from 3045 through 3046 to 3047, following the moon arc from outer rim toward the inner curve. Stitch the plum roses next from 154/3685 in the recesses through 3803 and 3041 at petal edges, then render the black roses with 310, 3799 and small 3371 channels for depth.
  4. Foliage / supporting motifs Build sage foliage outward from the stems using 3051, 3052 and 3053 in fishbone stitch, keeping every leaflet angled naturally from its midrib. Add gold thorn vines in 3045/3046 and black branches in 310, allowing stems to weave around roses without crossing the hand silhouette.
  5. Small decorative details Add plum berry clusters with 154/3685/3803 French knots, then stitch the small side crescents and round gold lunar discs with 3045-3047. Place leaf veins, thorn tips and short black branch flicks only after nearby fills are secure so these fine lines remain crisp.
  6. Final accents, dimensional details, cleanup, and blocking Refine the finger separations, crescent inner edge and darkest rose folds with restrained 310/3371. Add 762 bone glints, 3047 gold highlights and sparse 3041 berry touches, then check wreath symmetry, rose spacing and the open negative space around the hand before blocking from the reverse
