About this Sleeping Black Cat and Midnight Rose Crescent embroidery pattern
Sleeping Black Cat and Midnight Rose Crescent brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Sleeping black cat curled on a silver crescent moon, midnight navy and charcoal roses, gold leaves, burgundy/navy berries, ivory blossoms, small moons and starbursts.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- Transfer and structural frameworkCenter the large crescent first, then mark the cat silhouette and the circular rose-and-branch wreath. Use 3799/318 in 1 strand for moon contours and twig guides; place major flower centers before stitching so the wreath remains evenly weighted.
- Main focal element Build the curled cat from the deepest 310 masses outward. Follow the body curve with short long-and-short stitches, mix 939 into the back and tail for cool depth, and reserve 318/3865 for whiskers, cheek marks and a few narrow fur highlights so the face stays readable.
- Secondary large element Work the silver crescent behind the cat before finishing the outer floral ring. Lay 413 in crater shadows, blend through 318, and place 415/3865 along the lit rim. Keep stitch flow parallel to the crescent curve and sharpen crater edges only after the fill is smooth.
- Foliage / supporting motifs Stitch the wreath stems outward from the lower sides with 3799 and 814, then add fishbone leaves in 729/422 and cool gray accents in 318. Build large roses as woven wheels using 939/823/336 for navy blooms and 3799/413 for charcoal blooms, keeping petal spirals relaxed.
- Small decorative details Add burgundy, grape and navy berries with 814/815/154/823 French knots after the roses are secure. Work ivory mini roses and pearl clusters in 3865/822, then add gold starbursts in 729 and pale moons/stars in 415 so the celestial details sit above the botanical frame.
- Final accents, dimensional details, cleanup, and blocking Reinforce only selected cat edges with 1 strand 310, add final whisker flashes and tiny eye/facial details, and place the brightest 3865/415 highlights last. Block from the reverse with minimal pressure so rose wheels stay dimensional while the moon and open center remain flat
