About this Smiling Ghost Pumpkin Pail Moon Phases embroidery pattern
Smiling Ghost Pumpkin Pail Moon Phases brings celestial and ghosts details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central draped ghost with closed smiling eyes and jack-o-lantern pail; seven-position moon-phase arch; stylized charcoal clouds; tiny stars and gold.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer the full ghost silhouette, pumpkin ribs and handle, every moon-phase disk/crescent, the thin connecting arc, cloud curls, leafy sprigs, stars and dot placements. Stitch sprig stems, moon connectors and cloud scaffolding first in 1-strand 413/414/310. 2. MAIN FOCAL ELEMENT Fill the ghost in 3865 with smooth long-and-short strokes descending from crown through each draped fold. Add 822 only inside the arm, under the lower hem and beside selected creases. Finish the black contour, smiling eyes and mouth after the pale fill so the face stays crisp. 3. MOON-PHASE ARCH Work each phase from its curved rim inward: 3829 at the deepest gold edge, 729 across the main ochre area and 677 only on lit highlights. Fill the dark phase portions with 3799/310, keeping the circle edges clean and the connecting arc visibly finer than the disks. 4. PUMPKIN + CLOUDS / SPRIGS Shape the pail with curved vertical 3853/3854/922 ribs, darkest in channels and lightest on rib crowns. Keep clouds mostly outline-based in 3799-415; fishbone the side and lower leaves in gray families so they frame rather than compete with the ghost. 5. SMALL DETAIL WORK Add jack-o-lantern eyes/mouth, leaf veins, inner cloud curls, tiny dark stars and gold stars only after main fills. Use compact 729 French knots for the round gold dots, with occasional 3-strand knots only on the largest beads; all fine lines stay 1 strand. 6. FINAL DETAILS + BLOCKING Balance the moon arch over the ghost, check both side sprigs for equal visual weight and keep open fabric between clouds and figure. Reinforce only essential 310 edges, bury tails away from the pale ghost, then steam-block gently from the reverse without flattening knots
